A Few Playback Notes for 08th MS Team

I've seen a few comments regarding some playback issues on the new 08th MS Team release that I wanted to address.

First off, the audio. These tracks are encoded using HE-AAC, and the versions are noted in the file details. If you have trouble playing these back, I suggest using FFDShow's audio codecs.

Also on the topic of the audio, people have asked why there is a 2.0 and a 5.1 track for the Japanese language tracks. The reason for this is that there are two different sound mixes. The R1 DVD, having been released before the remaster, uses the old 1995 effects mix. This is the same sound effects mix that the dub track uses. In 2006, when the series was remastered, a new 5.1 mix was created in Japan with new sound effects. Personally, I prefer the old effects, and because the HE-AAC tracks are only around 10-11MB in size, I felt it was worth including both options. As for why the 2.0 was selected as the primary Japanese track? Personal preference.

Regarding the video, the encode was done using the latest build of x264. From what I understand, there are some new things in the recent builds that CoreAVC 1.9.5 are incompatible with. If you get playback issues and you are on CoreAVC 1.9.5, you might try either upgrading to to 2.0, or switching to FFDShow's h264 decoder.

If you have any additional problems, feel free to post in the technical help section on the forums.
