Episode 3: Cash Eye
A formal investigation into one Mr. Todoko has yielded evidence that he may be managing former Secretary General Yakushima’s assets. This prompts the government to launch its own investigation into the allegations, but there are two problems: Todoko’s vault is state-of-the-art; only he can access the assets in the vault. The other more immediate concern is that a hacker and thief by the name of Cash Eye plans on infiltrating the vault during an exclusive high-society party.

Episode 2: Night Cruise
Following nuclear World War III and non-nuclear World War IV, also referred to as the Second Vietnam War, Japan passed an act known as the Refugee Special Action Policy, inviting war refugees from all across Asia to enter Japan. Hundreds of Asian refugees took Japan up on the offer to enter their country, and have taken low wage jobs handed out to them by various companies looking for a low wage work force. Gino is one such refugee; having been involved in World War IV as a combat pilot, Gino has returned to Japan as a refugee.

So as the New Year on the Gregorian calendar approaches, we begin to look back at what has transpired in the last decade. Release Schedule Update - Monday 12/28/09 - End of the Year Edition
So, here we are, the last Monday update of 2009. Before I get to the releases coming up, I wanted to look back at a few stats from the past 8 months.

So, in case it hasn't been clear, for the last month or so, it's been a real struggle to come up with random facts for the Monday intro. Because it's a new year, it's time to drop them. But in their place will be something a little more interactive. I'm not going to reveal what it is until next week as I'm still working out a few kinks, but I think that it will be a nice change of pace.
So, lets get down to business, shall we? As you can see below this post, GitS S.A.C. 2nd GIG has started to release. This week is going to be a GitS week of sorts, as I'm going to try and finish the other 13 Tachikomatic Days episodes, as well as release The Laughing Man, the season 1 compilation movie. Along with those, additional 2nd GIG episodes will release.
Some of you may be asking where the Gundam OVA that has been promised is. For the moment, we are still working out some encoding issues as I want to provide the best release I can. I figure delaying it a bit longer is an acceptable alternative to putting out something I'm not happy with.
On the subject of a new Blu-ray series, I'll be attacking Black Lagoon here pretty quick. These will likely beging next week if we aren't ready for the OVA.
Lastly, as January is nearly upon us, Code Geass R2 Part 3 should be arriving soon, meaning the usual "Drop everything and work on Geass" style release. I'll update more on that once I have shipping confirmation.

Ghost in the Shell S.A.C. 2nd GIG Episode 1 (Blu-Ray)
Episode 1: Reembody
Two years have past since Section 9 was forcefully disbanded by the Umibozu. In that time Section 9’s members have regrouped, their headquarters have been reconstructed, and they have resumed their previous role as a special forces team that specializes in cyber warfare. Unfortunately, the team exists in a sort of "black hole": although the group has reformed they are operating without the consent of the Japanese government because the Special Forces Restriction Bill was used to dismantle the group. However, a hostage situation requiring the specialized abilities of Section 9 provides an opportunity to reactivate the unit officially.

Outlaw Star Remastered Episode 26 (DVD)
Episode 26: Return to Space
Gene and Hazanko kill each other in battle. The Leyline takes them to cyberspace and revives them, granting their wishes. Gene gets Melfina, and Hazanko gets ultimate power. They defeat Hazanko with the Leyline's powers and each crew member goes their separate ways. At the very end, the group is reunited as the Outlaw Star needs a repair job, and the group, including Suzuka and Aisha, is set to head out to another section of space. Their fate is unknown.

After 15 days of fierce fighting the Umibozu complete their operation to dismantle Section 9 by assassinating Kusanagi and capturing Batou. The dismantling of Section 9, spun by the media as a JSDF preemptive strike against a radical security unit, provides the prime minister with the public support his party needs to win the lower house elections. Three months pass, during which Togusa tries to come to terms with all that has happened with Section 9.

Outlaw Star Remastered Episode 22 (DVD)
Episode 22: Gravity Jailbreak
Gene goes to prison to get the coordinates to the Galactic Leyline from a prisoner there. Gene meets Saiyo Wong, who has the coordinates for the Leyline. The pair break out and are the first to escape from the prison, thanks to Gene's plan. Afterward, onboard the Outlaw Star, Wong gives Gene a device which he says contains the coordinates. Professor Khan then wakes Melfina up, and Gene then kicks him off the ship when he gives Khan's shuttle to Wong.

The results weren't too surprising. As for myself, I usually take the release in whatever type of download it's available in. But if it were available in all these choices, I would take direct download, then individual torrent as my backup choice. I don't think I would ever purchase a show blindly if I hadn't seen it somewhere before.
On to the new poll...it was originally going to be a poll for you, viewers, to decide between 2 choices of which will be a new Blu-Ray series for us to release in January. However, at the last minute, OZC and I came to the decision that we will make the decision for you, and we know that you will agree with our decision when it comes time to reveal it. This was one of the shows that many people requested in an old poll.
So, the new revised poll is a simple one asking which of those holidays do you celebrate. Because there are too many names for Christmas around the world, it will be referred to as just "Christmas."

Today is (well, was, since I'm posting this late in the evening) the first day of Winter, which also means today was the shortest day of the year. After today, it's back to ever increasing daylight until June!
So, we have two holiday weekends on our hands, which should mean that I'll be extra productive on completing OS and GitS. Both shows have 5 episodes remaining at this point.
Regarding GitS, in the later half of the week, or over the weekend, I'm going to try and re-release episodes 1-4 to replace the AC3 versions with AAC versions. Additionally, after the episodes are complete, I'll be working on the compilation movie and the other 13 episodes of Tachikomatic Days.
I'd like to say that I will have the rest of both shows done by the end of the week, but I can't make any promises. However, with only 5 episodes left, they should be done by early next week.
That about covers it for this week. Depending on how soon the encoding issues are worked out, I may be able to announce the Gundam OVA I'll be doing sometime next week, but we'll see. The same goes for when I can resume work on the OP/ED Collection Vol. 2.

After the events of Episode 11, Togusa uses J. D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye as a starting point and develops a theory that the Laughing Man is after something published on paper. Togusa receives permission to check out a Health, Labour and Welfare records building and stumbles on a key piece of evidence: a list of cyberbrain sclerosis patients treated by a secret vaccine has disappeared from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.

Two quick notes to go along with this episode. First off, this episode marks the start of the 3rd collection of OS, so for anyone using the cover art, this is where Collection 3 starts.
Secondly, this episode served as the backdoor pilot to the Outlaw Star spinoff Angel Links. I've never seen Angel Links, but I am researching if it too was remastered. If it was and I can hunt down a set of the R1 Angel Links DVD's, I might do it as a project sometime.

Former Japanese Prime Minister Kanzaki’s daughter has been abducted, and Section 9 is called in to investigate her disappearance. The prime suspect in the case is "Blindfold Ivan", a pseudonym for the North Territories Mafia. "Blindfold Ivan" uses the same M.O. in his abductions: Over a three day period multiple underage women are kidnapped and then shipped to chop shops where they are killed, and all organs and cybernetic pieces are taken to be sold on the black market.

Release Schedule Update - Monday 12/14/09
According to my Holiday Shopping facts sheet, this year, Monday, December 14th is "Brown Monday". I honestly have no idea why that is, but frankly, it sounds kind of gross. (Can anyone else tell I'm starting to really have to stretch these Monday things? Only 2 more weeks to go and then I can switch to a new thing for the update posts. I think everyone will like them.)
So, lets get right to it, shall we?
Starting off, the 00 Season 1 batch 3 was released earlier today. Expect a complete season batch sometime in February, as a lead-up to 00 Season 2's release.
Also on the batch topic, a few people have asked about the Geass R2 Batch 1. I expect to get that released sometime in the next 10 days.
In new release news, like usual, Outlaw Star and Ghost in the Shell will continue to release. We are nearing the home stretch here, and if I can keep the pace I'm hoping to, both should be done in the next 3 weeks.
In site related news, there are a few additions. First up, the new Torrents tab at the top of the page will give you a database with direct links to the torrents for all my releases. This will have ALL of the torrents, including the dead ones, because I don't want to leave a large number of files in the unsorted section. Thanks go out to Arysse for giving me the instructions on how to configure my Nyaa account to display the torrents this way.
In other news, while not yet linked anywhere, Qriist has a new page that will contain some of his MKV and video conversion tools. I suggest checking it out at http://www.ozc-anime.net/qriist if you are interested.
Lastly, it's been just over a month since the Google ads were placed on the blog and I can say that the results so far have been excellent. I'll be analyzing the results of each of the three ads as soon as I can figure out how to filter each ad. Once I've done that, I'll make a decision as to whether the banner ad above the latest post will be removed. From the direct feedback I've gotten, it will likely be removed.

This release contains Gundam 00 Season 1 Episodes 18-25, as well as the third set of bonus materials. I've again decided not to offer the bonus material separate, since it's easy enough to select just the bonus material for download, or, once transferred, downloaded from Qriist's LiveDrive.

In exchange for a substantial loan of money from Fred Luo, the Outlaw Star crew enters the annual Strongest Woman in the Universe tournament to stop Fred's fiancee, Reiko Ando, from winning, and thus prevent a marriage between the two. Aisha is forbidden from competing on the basis that she is a Ctarl Ctarl, so the rest of the crew dresses up Gene as a woman and enters him in the tournament under the name "Jenny" while Aisha also enters the tournament under the guise of a masked wrestler named "Firecat".

Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex Episode 18 (Blu-Ray)
Episode 18: Lost Heritage
After a five-year wait Chinese vice foreign minister Jin has been allowed access to the Kagashewa war memorial in Japan. Jin is the first Chinese dignitary to be granted access to the site, but not everyone is happy with the decision, and before long a death threat is made against Jin. Elsewhere, Aramaki and a friend visit the grave of one of their deceased comrades, a Colonel in the GSDF. While at the grave site, Aramaki happens to meet the Colonel’s daughter, who voices her concern over her brother Yu’s sudden behavioral changes.

An unknown client (actually Ron MacDougall) contacts the crew of the Outlaw star and asks Gene to meet him at a restaurant to discuss the Galactic Leyline. At the restaurant, Ron reveals to Gene some information about Melfina, the Outlaw Star and the Galactic Layline while Harry MacDougall attempts to seduce Melfina and steal the Outlaw Star.

New Poll...Finally!

We have been without a new poll for several weeks because we simply couldn't think of one. So I got the idea of this poll when I was talking to OZC several hours ago and he said our batch torrents are really popular. His theory was that people seem to wait for batches maybe because they fear the series being dropped. I figured more people would like batch torrents because they're faster to download and then they could marathon the whole series in one sitting.
Is any of this true? I don't know, but we'd like to hear your opinions on this so leave comments and/or head to the poll.
And no, we're not planning on only doing batch torrents in the future if that turns out to be the most popular. We just simply want to know which method of download (or not) do most people prefer. And could be for anything really, not just anime.

So, as should be evident by the above quote, today is the 68th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Not Monday related, but I felt that it was important to remember the day as it often gets glossed over as it isn't a holiday.
That aside, lets get on with our usual business.
Up first, the Gundam 00 Batch 3 will be released this week. As it stands, there will be no changes to any of the episodes themselves, so anyone who has them already will be able to seed once they get the bonus material. That bonus material will be finished in another day or two, as I had to re-download one segment as my raw was corrupt.
For other releases, I'll be continuing work on Outlaw Star and GitS. I'll be shooting to do another 2-3 episodes this week if I can. I've had a few questions as to whether I'll be batching either of these shows, but since work on them is continuing at a good pace right now, I think I'll just be batching them as season/series sets.
Also, I may be unavailable tomorrow afternoon-evening as my hot water heater broke yesterday and it is hopefully being fixed tomorrow. If that's the case, don't expect any OS or GitS until Wednesday.
Lastly, keep an eye out for an update to this post when EZ8 releases Geass R2 Episode 13 in 720p as it will be linked here as well as the episode post.

Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex Episode 16 (Blu-Ray)
Episode 16: Ag2O
Sensitive information has been stolen from a U.S. Navy base, and the primary suspect is a former Olympic silver medalist named Zaitsev. The Public Security office has instructed Batou to go undercover to spy on Zaitsev, a man whom he admires, to see if Zaitsev is somehow related to the missing information. Batou wants his information to be wrong and for Zaitsev to be innocent. The assignment calls into question Batou's attitude on his duty towards Section 9 and the decisions it forces him to make.

Episode 15: Machines Désirantes
Kusanagi's reservations regarding Section 9's Tachikoma units comes to a head. She has become disturbed by their behaviour, as their artificial intelligence agents appear to be developing too fast; she has additional concerns about the safety of retaining them in the unit for use in a battle situation. The Tachikomas have become vaguely aware of Kusanagi's concerns, and attempt to avoid deactivation by hatching a bizarre scheme to appeal to Kusanagi and prevent their removal.
