Playback Help - UPDATED 11/29/09

Need help with playing back a file? Here are some things to try before you ask for help. If none of these help, please post and we'll try and help you.

1. Have you been able to play previous episodes? Have you made any changes to your PC in the time between playing previous episodes that worked?

2. Codecs. If you aren't using CCCP, get it now. Seriously. In my experience, this will pretty much fix 95% of problems. While you are there, get CCCP Insurgent. This will allow you to see what codecs you have installed. Get rid of any duplicates. CCCP was updated in September of '09 and it is suggested you upgrade your installation. Windows 7 users can alternately try Shark007's Codec Pack as it works great and leaves DXVA functional.

3. For HD files, if your system doesn't have quite enough processing power to decode 1080p at full speed, you can try one of two things. First up, there are conversions of many of my releases to 720p done by EZ8. These require less processing power, and take up less space as well. The other option is CoreAVC. They offer a trial version so you can see if it helps out. If you are using the 9/09 build of CCCP, the new version of ffmpeg-mt is included in FFDshow, which is a multithread version of ffmpeg that will work similar to CoreAVC on dual/quad core CPU's. If none of these help, your hardware is likely too old.

4. The media player. I have tested my releases 100% with Media Player Classic Home Cinema, and when properly configured, Windows Media Center (Vista and Windows 7 versions. Currently, files tested on Media Center are only tested on Windows 7 Media Center). You may have success with VLC, Gom, and others, however none of the releases have been tested on other players.

5. If you are running OSX, ssj2_goha suggests the following:
a. Download Perian
b. Install it.
c. Use Quicktime to open the MKV's

If you have tried all of these things and are still having problems, post in the comments with a thorough description of the problem. Descriptions like "It won't work" are useless. Tell us exactly what you have tried and what happens when you try and playback and we will try and help you.
